STATE HISTORY

The Mississippi State Association of Elks was organized on June 16, 1926, by John K. McMiller in Greenville, MS. The Daughters’ Auxiliary of the Mississippi State Association of Elks was established in 1932 by Mrs. Tellis B. Ellis of Jackson, MS.

The Mississippi State Association of Elks and the Daughters’ Auxiliary like the Grand Lodge and Grand Temple was founded on the cardinal principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly and Sisterly Love, and Fidelity. Our vision is to develop servant-leaders, promote unity and friendship, and provide public service within the community. The mission of the organization is to transform our communities through leadership, education, civic engagement, and public service.

To fulfill our mission the Association sponsors various programs and projects throughout the State of Mississippi. Our sponsorship includes but not limited to the following:

• Provides scholarship opportunities for students in grades 9 – 12 through its oratorical contest, music, and beauty and talent competition;
• Donates yearly to the American Cancer Association, MS Kidney Foundation, MS Department of Child Protective Services, MS Sickle Cell Foundation, and various battered women shelters, homeless shelters and food banks;
• Provides school supplies to elementary and secondary schools and daycare centers;
• Provides after school tutorials;
• Sponsors precision drill competition for students in grades K – 12.
• Conducts voter registration;
• Visits nursing homes, hospitals, and adult daycare centers with small tokens of love.

The Mississippi State Association of Elks has made a commitment to give its time, talents, and resources to bring joy and to improve the lives of the children and families.
